SLED Certified Security Training
"SafeguardSC"
In January 2017, SafeguardSC went into effect to meet the demands of the private security industry and to fulfill SLED's statutory responsibilities, the procedural changes to training, certification, licensing, and regulation of the private security industry. As such, Pro1-IPA provides quality Security Guard/Officer certification, and yearly re-certification in support of the SafeguardSC program. All training must be scheduled at least 5 days in advance and is subject to the instructor's availability. Classes are conducted strictly in accordance with SLED Regulatory guidelines. Please note, Pro1-IPA does not provide training on Baton, Taser, or OC Spray. Please note that the initial SafeguardsSC class for unarmed and armed certification is conducted on different days. They will not be given on the same day.
To facilitate the process, you may complete the appropriate form with your personal information, print it, and bring it to class. Any remaining information will be completed during class.
Application for Officer: Required for all security officers (unarmed & armed).
Security Officer Primary Basic: Required for unarmed security officers.
Security Officer Primary Plus: Required for security officers that will be armed.
Firearms: Required for security officers that will be armed (qualification form).
Security Training-Additional: This form is for additional training that is required by the company.
Primary Basic

REQUIREMENTS
Primary Basic is for new individuals that desire to enter the security arena. The individual must already be affiliated (pending hire or hired) with a licensed South Carolina security company. All application and qualification documents (including fingerprint cards) will be completed during class. The student (or company representative) will be provided with the original forms. The security company representative (or the student) is responsible for forwarding the required documents to SLED along with the appropriate processing fee. Additionally, your security photo will be obtained during class and forwarded to SLED via electronic means by the instructor.
SLED PROCESSING FEE ($65.00): Students will coordinate with their hiring security company to determine if they (the security company) will pay the SLED processing fee, or require them (the student) to pay the fee.
STUDY MATERIAL: For those who wish to study ahead of time, it is highly recommended you visit the SLED website and download the Primary Basic training manual. It is the responsibility of the student to bring a copy of the manual to class.
EXAMINATION: The examination consists of 100 questions (multiple choice, true and false, and fill-in-the-blank. As such, it is highly advisable to take advantage of studying the Primary Basic training manual.
TESTING REQUIREMENTS:
1. The security officer must achieve an 80% test score.
2. If the officer fails his/her test, the officer will be allowed to retest only once. If the officer fails the retest, he/she will not be eligible for registration by SLED.
Primary Plus
(Armed)

REQUIREMENTS
Primary Plus is for individuals who desire (or the company desire) to be armed. Primary Basic is the mandatory prerequisite before you can take Primary Plus. You must qualify with the firearm you will carry while on duty.
SLED PROCESSING FEE ($45.00): Students will coordinate with their hiring security company to determine if they (the security company) will pay the SLED processing fee, or require them (the student) to pay the fee.

Requirements
In accordance with SLED Regulatory guidance, all security officers, unarmed and armed, must attend an annual recertification class. During the initial part of the recertification (in-service), the Training Officer will be provided with updated information that was received from SLED during the yearly Training Officer recertification. The second part of the recertification will consist of firearm recertification for security officers that are armed. Security Officers must qualify with the firearm they will carry while on duty.
SLED Processing Fee:
The SLED recertification for unarmed and armed are the same as the original processing fee.

Unarmed: $45.00

Armed: $65.00 (Armed recertification is $45.00 plus $65.00 for a total of $110.00)
The instructor will provide the student with the original of his/her recertification training documents. The student, or their company representative, will be responsible for submitting all required documents to SLED. The instructor will maintain a copy in the appropriate training file, and ensure that a copy of the student training documents is provided to the company representative.
FIREARM RECERTIFICATION:
All security officers are still required to achieve an 80% on their firearm recertification. If the officer fails to obtain an 80% on his/her firearm qualification, they will have one more opportunity to take the qualification. If they fail the second qualification, they will not be allowed to be registered as an armed officer.
